Difference between East and West Coast.

The east coast of Sri Lanka, especially Trincomalee, is ideal for beginners and casual divers. It offers easy learning conditions, safe diving experiences even during varying weather, and immediate access to dive sites. Trincomalee is home to some of the best coral reefs in the country, making it perfect for underwater exploration. The area also features excellent snorkeling spots and the famous coral island at Sandy Bay, which visitors can swim to directly from the shore. Our diving center is located at Trinco Sandy Bay, providing direct access to these beautiful and beginner-friendly waters.

In contrast, the west coast of Sri Lanka, particularly Kalpitiya, is perfect for more adventurous and experienced divers. It is well known for drift diving and vibrant marine biodiversity, including Napoleon wrasses, parrotfish varieties, and the colorful fire stream fish. Kalpitiya offers a safe and eco-friendly diving environment with no dynamite fishing or illegal nets. Dive sites range from shallow 6-meter wrecks to deeper 32-meter dives, and include coral reefs, swim-throughs, and other exciting underwater features, making it a top spot for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike.

When is Sri Lanka Diving Season?

Kalpitiya Diving Center in Sri Lanka operates seasonally due to the influence of two major monsoons: the Northwest Monsoon and the Northeast Monsoon. The best time to dive in Kalpitiya and along the west coast, including areas like from November to April, when sea conditions are calm and visibility is excellent. On the other hand, Trincomalee on the east coast offer ideal diving conditions from mid-March to the end of October, during the calmer northeast monsoon period.

To ensure the best diving experiences throughout the year, we split our operations accordingly—from November to April, our diving center is active in Kalpitiya, while from March to October, we operate in Nilaveli and Trincomalee. This way, we always offer you the best possible underwater adventures, no matter the season.
